Plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery exists since antiquity. Developed during the First World War with the " gueules cassées " veterans and later with the " burn victims " surgery, it is the surgery of appearances, lines and shapes.

It isn't an organ speciality such as abdominal surgery or orthopaedic surgery but a structural speciality (bone, muscle, skin…) as it affects all the parts of the body: face, breasts, stomach, thighs,…

More so than other specialities, plastic surgery follows very strict rules of competence, strictness and professional ethics. Actually, plastic surgeons and the clinics in which they practise are forbidden to advertise. As a result, a doctor's reputation relies only on the quality of his/her care, diplomas and….word of mouth. The medical council is the only institution allowed to publish a list of practitioners specialised in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery.

The essential preliminary consultation before the planned operation will be as comprehensive as possible for your peace of mind and your safety :
- photographs will be taken
- documents will be given to you : information sheets regarding your operation from the French society of plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, leaflet on post-operative instructions, a quotation if it concerns an aesthetic procedure, and you will finally be presented with the informed consent, medico-legal document.
